Dear Walt Disney:
Dear Walt Disney is a project inspired by this letter to Walter Elias Disney on March 7, 1964. Not all of us are fortunate enough to have been alive while Walt was, so this is your chance to say anything you've ever wanted to say to him or any of his colleagues (real or imaginary). If you want to write a letter, please write your name, age, email, who you're writing to, and your message. and then send it here. Have a magical day! - Allie

Dear Walt Disney

Dear Mr Disney, a few months ago I was watching a documentary about your life, and it was just finishing up when my thirteen year old brother and my mom came into the living room and watched the remainder of it with me. When it was finished, my brother turned to me and asked me, “If you had the opportunity to meet Walt Disney, what would you say to him?” I did not hesitate my answer: “Thank you.”

(Sorry this took forever..)

elliefredricksen! Congratulations! You will be contacted via ask box for further information. And thank you to everyone else who has sent in letters so far.

Now the contest may be over, but that doesn’t mean we’ve stopped accepting submissions! Keep them coming, ladies and gentlemen!

Dear Mr. Disney,

Dear Mr. Disney,

What do you say to a person who influences your life daily? I have been trying to think of a way to write some magnificent, heartfelt letter, but alas I cannot. Why can’t I? Because nothing can express the love and gratitude I have. But I shall try.

From the moments I can first remember, Disney has been a part of my life. Whether it was being fascinated by the colors of the animated films on my television and not understanding it completely to first singing along to songs by Disney, I cannot remember a time where Disney has not helped me to grow.

Now, Disney still continues to assist me in developing. I’ve learned how to face my villains. I’ve learned to love. I’ve learned how much family matters. And I’ve learned how to spread magic. I look to each day with a sprinkle of pixie dust. I can fly if I want to. All my dreams can come true. No one can tell me something is impossible. I will make it possible. I will keep moving forward and keep dreaming dreams.

I have you to thank for that.

Thank you for the rabbit in blue shorts that you created all of those years ago. Oswald may not have the success of your other characters, but he began the journey to the successful Disney company.

Thank you for the mouse you once wanted to name Mortimer. Although I am very happy your wife Lillian influenced you to use Mickey instead. This mouse has brought me out of depression time and time again. His smile is enough to lighten a day.

Thank you for the mouse named Minnie. It shows everyone deserves to have a partner.

Thank you for Goofy, Pluto, Donald, and Daisy.

Thank you for the princesses and their princesses.

Thank you for the characters.

Thank you for the sidekicks.

Thank you for the music.

Thank you for the songs.

Thank you for the art.

Thank you for the stories.

Thank you for the lessons.

Thank you for being you,

An update:

I said last week that if we got five or less submissions by Friday (meaning tomorrow) we’d extend the contest, but so far we’ve only gotten one, which means that a winner will be picked very soon!

If you still want to send in a letter and to be included in the contest, please do so soon!

Dear Mister Disney,

danadanes:

You have been with me from the very beginning. There isn’t anything in my life I can look back on and say you and your empire has not influenced. I grew up thinking the “D” in your name was somehow a “G” backwards. That’s the very first thing that comes to mind when I either see or hear “Disney”. I remember being much younger and being terrified of Maleficent and Ursula and even Hades. You taught me childhood lessons I still live up to now. Friendship, family, and love. You taught me values I continue to carry with me, characteristics I wish to possess and aspirations I wish to someday achieve. It wasn’t until I watched more movies that I understood the message in most of them- true love will always find a way. Then, it wasn’t until I grew up to realize that everything was just fiction. I had grown up thinking I’d meet my Hercules and he’d save me from disaster, or my Aladdin to fly me off to some far off land. I was crushed.

My first break up pushed me far from Disney straying away from any connotation of a “happy ending”. I was discouraged and feared that I set too high of expectations for myself. Then, I thought that maybe that would be just a rough patch, my first obstacle before I would meet my “prince”. And Mr. Disney, I did. I found the man who would be my Hercules, the Stitch to my Angel. He loved that I loved Disney. And I loved that he loved me more. He took me on a trip to Disneyland, deepening our love and bond. He completed me in ways I had only seen in your movies. He saved me from disasters even though I put on a badass attitude just like Meg. He was there when I needed him. Until the day he wasn’t. Until all my visions of a “wish come true” had shattered. Disney let me down, once again.

I fell into such a deep depression that even a marathon of all my favorite movies couldn’t help. I grew tired of seeing couples wearing matching Disney clothing or referencing their significant other to a Disney character. I started to resent any meaning Disney gave me. I still loved it of course, I just felt a pinch in my nerve and deterioration in my veins as I saw pictures of anything Disney related- especially Hercules, Disneyland, and Stitch. It came to a point I had to take a break from Disney. I threw out any memories attached to my ex- physically and mentally, object or thought. Slowly, for a while it worked. I had gotten used to the fact that I was alone, in the seas of many fish, trying to find my way back to Sydney on the East Australian Current.

I am back home now. I’ve found my way. I can breathe easy and smile at the things I used to smile at. No matter what, I’ll always have different feelings towards Disney. And I think the fact that the empire you built gives me so much emotion is vital in my life. I feel sadness, joy, pain, and wonder all at the very same time. It creates balance in my life. Disney will always be a second home to me, no matter where I’ll go, one movie, one book, one character will bring back memories, both good and bad.

Your greatest fan.

So we’ve gotten a few requests to extend the contest…

So I’m going to say that if I get less than five submissions between now and next Friday, we’ll choose then, but if we get more I’ll let it go longer.

So there haven’t been many submissions lately, and we’d really like that to change! As incentive to get the word out for submitting more letters/stories, we’ve created a contest. Here are your guidelines :)

  • Submit a story or letter to the submissions page on this site
  • in doing so, you will be entered in a draw to win a Vinylmation! (or some other kind of Disney collectible; if you have a suggestion of something else please feel free to visit our ask box)
  • This contest will run until March 31th, 2012, so you have plenty of time to write an excellent letter! (but please don’t wait until the last minute)
  • If you have already submitted a letter, please feel free to send us a message indicating so; that way every submission, new and old, has a chance to win :)
  • The winner will be notified through their ask box, so make sure it is opened!
  • If we get enough stories/letters, there will be more than one winner, so make sure this spreads around!
  • Make sure you remember to include your email address in your submission! We will not publish it for others to see :)
  • Any other questions, please feel free to visit our ask box.

Good luck to you all, and get writing! :)

This is your last month to submit letters and be eligible for the contest! We choose the winner on April 1st!

Since we’ve only had a few submissions this whole time (which is sort of disappointing, to be honest), should I still choose a winner on Sunday or wait for more stories/letters to come in? :S
